You are the Medicine: Healing Connection through Somatic Breathwork & Authentic Movement

Join us for a day of deep self-exploration through authentic movement and somatic-based breathwork. This unique combination weaves together relational attunement and inner-guidance to give us a direct experience of healing in relationship. This immersion will include 2 sessions of Authentic Movement and a somatic-based breathwork experience (based off of Holotropic Breathwork).

The principles and practice of both Authentic Movement and Breathwork offer direct experiences of what it means to listen deeply to ourselves while in relationship. These practices guide us toward what is ready to be known, felt and integrated via embodied inquiry. Our bodies invite us to tend to the places of our being that are perhaps longing for more attention— those quieter interior threads of intelligence that we get distracted from in our daily lives. Together, we will build a relationship with our own internal compass, exploring what it means to truly belong to ourselves as a foundation for authentic connection with others.

This day is a sacred container for self-medicine. We will root into the inherent wisdom of our bodies and the profound truth that healing deepens in the presence of others. Through movement, breath, stillness, and shared reflection, we will remember what it means to be held, witnessed, and supported on our path.

We invite you to come as you are.

What is Somatic Breathwork?

Somatic breathwork uses breath, music, and non-directive support as an invitation for what lives within the psyche and soma to come forward—to be felt, expressed, and integrated. It offers a pathway for honest expression, release, and reconnection with our inner truth. There’s space for the movement of what’s been held, the welcoming of what’s emerging, and the possibility of befriending both the shadow and the light within us.

Experiences may unfold through symbolic imagery, physical sensations, emotional waves, vocal expression, or intuitive movement—each a language through which the body and soul speak. By turning inward with the breath as our guide, we learn to listen more deeply to the wisdom that lives within. In this way, breathwork becomes not just a practice, but a return—an embodied path of remembering how to belong to ourselves and be present for the ongoing process of our own being and becoming.

What is Authentic Movement?

Authentic Movement is an embodiment modality that brings together depth psychology and intuitive movement. In the practice, movers close their eyes and listen deeply to the movement impulses that arise organically in their bodies from the silence. Without planning or contriving what happens next, the mover allows their body to respond to whatever arises within them. Movers connect with sensation, imagery, and feeling, as they let themselves move intuitively. By opening conscious awareness to the body in this way, a bridge to the subconscious emerges. This creates new pathways for self-insight, healing, and overcoming old roadblocks to change. The practice is deepened by the presence of a compassionate and attuned witness who holds the space for the mover’s experience. The witness forgoes judgement and projection to learn what it means to be with themself in relationship.

After movement completes there is an opportunity for the mover to put words to their experience while the witness listens empathetically. This process supports the transition of subconscious material into conscious awareness. Language helps to solidify the insights gained during movement, deepening both party’s inner knowing and what it means to stay with themself in relationship.

Christine Calvert

Christine Calvert is an addictions counselor, somatic practitioner and a certified Holotropic Breathwork® facilitator. She is a module facilitator and teacher for Grof Transpersonal Training both in the US and internationally. In addition to bringing Holotropic Breathwork® and other experiential workshops to mental health and addiction facilities, she is passionate about the ethics and integrity needed in facilitating expanded-state work; supporting the integration of Holotropic and psychedelic sessions through somatic resourcing; and creative expression, personal ritual, and group support. She aims to approach this work through a trauma-informed, anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming lens and is dedicated to de-colonizing the work of soma, psyche and spirit, including a deep dedication to unwind the reality of that constellation in her own body and mind. Her own personal healing journey was greatly influenced by the Holotropic perspective and she feels deeply dedicated to sharing this work with those seeking healing. She enjoys finding ways to weave her personal and professional experience of different therapeutic and spiritual systems such as Shamanism, Somatic Experiencing, Jungian psychology, attachment theory, and mindfulness practices into her work with others. Christine maintains a private counseling and consulting practice in addition to facilitating Holotropic Breathwork® nationally and internationally, and supporting psilocybin facilitator trainings in Oregon.
